At last there's a book that gives you that answer. Poker is a game of so many variables; table position, flop texture, the number of players in a hand, the personalities of your opponents, and so much more. By: Annie Duke , and others. In Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in football history: With 26 seconds remaining, and trailing by four at the Patriots' one-yard line, he called for a pass instead of a handing off to his star running back.

The pass was intercepted, and the Seahawks lost. Critics called it the dumbest play in history. But was the call really that bad? Or did Carroll actually make a great move that was ruined by bad luck?

Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time. By: Annie Duke. Secrets of Professional Tournament Poker, Volume 1 dealt with the fundamentals of play.

Volume 2 builds on this base and examines the highly complex issue of how to handle the different stages of a tournament. At times the best strategy is to play loose, create problems for your opponent and thus keep accumulating chips. At other times an ultra-tight strategy will be the most profitable. Understanding when to "change gears" is a highly developed skill that requires a great deal of study and experience.

There is a lot of money to be made at small-stakes no-limit hold'em because However, few players understand exactly how to exploit these games. Competent players who generally play larger stakes will, of course, beat them.

But they won't beat them for nearly as much as they ought to. Because they don't understand how to adjust correctly. Playing a solid, competent, decently aggressive style is a strategy that will be profitable. That said, you should not be content with just beating these games - you should be absolutely crushing them. Jonathan constructs a basic strategy to crush small-stakes games and also identifies the adjustments that need to be made when facing more competent opposition.

The content is worth making the purchase but I feel just a little more effort could have went into the charts. They are great if you follow along but since they are in a PDF file and are only referenced as Diagram 1, Diagram 2, etc it makes going back to revisit them almost impossible. Should go back and put a description on each chart for easy reference later.

I was not disappointed. This book begins with the basics and even though I knew a lot of the beginning preflop strategies it was great to review them and pick up a few extra things I may have missed. I caught myself constantly pressing pause and taking notes to ensure I remember to implement these strategies in my game.

This will be one I listen to over again and I will continue to purchase books from this great coach! Not to mention he does a great job on narrating it as well! Very satisfied with my purchase. This is one of the most interesting books on ranges I have seen. The operative here is seen. This one however defeated that forum as you must be able to see the charts for this to be effective. Good content but I switched to Kindle version from Audiable.

This may be a great book if you are able to look at the charts that he refers to MANY MANY times, but when listening in the car where you cannot be looking at these charts, it is very confusing to follow.

I highly recommend this book because it has some really great, solid advice about playing poker. That being said, I would also order the physical copy or e-book of the book because listening to hand ranges and charts described is tough to follow.

There is the option to go online and download the charts referenced but, since most people are listening to this audiobook while multi-tasking, it is not ideal to also have to review charts online. I think from a learning perspective, read the book and study the charts, then use this audiobook to polish up the concepts on the go.

I like it plus it has bonus videos One thing to tell to the listener though, please listen this is important: this book is full of charts actually of them so be ready for that as soon as you buy this book. I have played recreational poker for years, but wanted to begin taking the game more seriously.

Just the first few chapters made me a better poker player. At the very next game and since. I purchased the audible version of the book. I wound up buying the paperback book. You hold. Should you fold, call, or raise? Your real decision is a tougher one. Are you going to just call, or are you going to reraise? You might think at first that with nearly all factors favorable, this must be an easy reraise. A pair of tens is not really a great hand for putting in a third raise, and how you want to handle the hand depends a lot on the flop.

I like to base my decision on my position and my chip strength. If I have position, I like to let the hand play out more slowly, so that my positional advantage has time to operate. My chip strength also affects my decision. The value of hands like jacks and tens drops in this situation, since those hands often end in coin-flip situations against hands with two higher cards.

That also argues for playing the hand more slowly. Same table as before, with the same structure of blinds and antes. No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice is the definitive work on this complex game.
